1897

Farmers & Merchants State Bank has been committed to the growth of Northwest Ohio since day one. We had our first name change in 1919 when we added “State” per our state charter. But our commitment to the people of this great region never wavered one iota.

1970

It looks different today, but if you visit our headquarters in Archbold, Ohio, you’re opening the same doors F&M customers have since the Buckeyes rose to national prominence in the 1970s. We expanded our presence in Fulton County during that decade too, opening a full-service office in Wauseon, Ohio.

1980

By the end of the ’80s, F&M had four full-service offices in Fulton County. In 1981, we expanded into Williams County with new branches in Stryker and West Unity. By 1986, we had five offices in Fulton County and three in Williams County.

2000

In 2007, F&M opened an office in Perrysburg and expanded into Indiana with offices in Butler and Auburn. Over the next decade, yet more new locations came in quick succession: Angola, Indiana, and Hicksville, Waterville, Custar and Sylvania, Ohio, followed by Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Bowling Green and Findlay, Ohio.

In January 2019, F&M completed the acquisition of Limberlost Bancshares, Inc., the holding company for Bank of Geneva, an Indiana bank since 1892. The merger took our total office count to 30, adding locations in Berne, Decatur, Monroe, Monroeville and Portland, Indiana.

In 2020, F&M purchased Adams County Financial Resources in Geneva, Indiana, and merged it with FM Investment Services, a division of the bank. We opened three new loan production offices in Oxford, Ohio, Muncie, Indiana, and West Bloomfield, Michigan. The following year, we acquired Ossian Financial Services, Inc., in Ossian, Indiana, and Perpetual Federal Savings Bank in Urbana, OH, resulting in three additional new office locations.

2023

F&M’s footprint now includes 35 full-service office locations, three loan production offices, and over 52 ATMs in Champaign, Defiance, Fulton, Hancock, Henry, Lucas, Shelby, Wood and Williams, counties in Ohio, and Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Jay and Steuben counties in Indiana. Today, we serve the financial needs of families, farmers, businesses and industries with a full suite of traditional, online, mobile and telephone banking products. And with over $3 billion in assets, we’re consistently ranked among the nation’s top 200 publicly traded banks.
